It seems that my habit of riding a T-bar ski lift (setting my rear foot blindly in front of the rear binding when embarking) may be detrimental to the ladder strap if the strap happens to be awkwardly under my foot! Last week the replacement strap I had put on the binding gave way exactly like the first one: cracked just above the hinge end. Luckily it did not break totally in two, and I could ride gently down.
I wonder if you could warn others not to subject the ladder strap to heavy force 90 degree bending :-).
