“The films and mags have been trending towards bigger peaks, more remote zones, first descents, longer adventures…bravado stuff. Which is sweet and all, but the future of splitboarding is to continue to inspire more snowboarders to develop a broader mountaineering skill set and venture more off piste.”

Gabe Ciafre is a human GPS unit with an extra tank of gas. He is usually the first one awake in the morning, brewing up the coffee, and reviewing the day’s options and weather. On the skin track, his energy makes him a desired addition to many crews. Gabe ascends and descends slopes quickly, and travels the world chasing the best conditions. Getting to know the year round circuit, his seasons have been starting off guiding where it typically gets the best the earliest – in Japan.

Q & A

I splitboard most days. It is nice to always be prepared for an adventure. Even if it’s off the side of your local mountain or out of a heli, splits always increase the options. Also, maximizing your uphill climbing capacity makes for a stronger partner.

Splitboarding has enabled snowboarders to go anywhere their imaginations take them, and to chase their skier buddies. It has also helped support a growing desire within freeriding to move away from the parks and pipes.

Safely shredding substantially soft snow sitting stabely on steep slopes.

The bindings are solid, lightweight, and reliable. They are also less mechanically complex than other binding options, which means a lower probability of failing parts when way out back.
