“Splitboarding is key in my early season, and throughout the year. It’s good to slow things down and just walk in the mountains — mountain meditation.”
Mark Carter manages to mosey between two different worlds as few can. For half the year, Carter is totally at ease on his family’s Wyoming ranch, flipping calves, riding horses, and “getting into the kind of deep shit only true cowboys know,” he said. Come winter, however, Carter can shred the backcountry and trade tram laps at Jackson Hole with the best snowboarders in the business. “Some folks around Ten Sleep might accuse me of pissing down both legs,” he said, “but, hey, I’m good at both and I love my life.”
